Project G174710 - Eastlake Streetscape and Pedestrian Enhancement Project (completed)
The Eastlake project involves traffic calming, improving pedestrian safety, and encouraging alternate travel modes such as public transit, walking and bicycling. Improvements include sidewalk repairs and accent paving at crosswalks; new bulbouts at intersections and mid-block; new street landscaping with trees on sidewalks and in tree planters in parking lanes; ADA ramps at crosswalks; improved street lighting; and benches, trash cans and bicycle racks.
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission provided $1.737 Million toward the $3.0 Million project to construct the streetscape and pedestrian improvements along International Boulevard between 5th and 8th Avenues; East 12th Street between 5th and 8th Avenues; and along 5th, 6th and 7th Avenues between International Boulevard and East 12th Street. Fiscal year 2002-03 Measure B funds provided $180,000 for pedestrian safety elements within these project limits.
In February 2004, ACTIA awarded a separate Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian Discretionary Grant in the amount of $262,000 to fill a project gap by extending the pedestrian improvements, including improved sidewalks and pedestrian street crossings, on two additional blocks of International Boulevard, from Eighth to Tenth Avenues. The project was completed January 31, 2005. Oakland received kudos from ACTIA for being the first recipient of the discretionary bike/ped program funding to complete its project.
Impact: Improve safety, access and quality of life to residents and businesses, improve the neighborhood's general appearance and revitalize the neighborhood commercial district.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) provided $1.4 Million toward the $2.4 Million project to construct the streetscape and pedestrian improvements along 8th Street from Mandela Parkway to Wood Street, and along Center Street from 7th to 8th Streets.
Fiscal year 1999-2000 Measure B funds provided $125,000 of the local match required by the MTC grant.
Impact: Improve pedestrian safety; improve bike access, traffic circulation and transit accessibility; improve the neighborhood's general appearance; and promote retention, expansion and patronage of local business and residential development.
